When you’ve got little ones it’s tough to run off to a resort, get caught up on sleep, and have those knots in your back worked out by a professional masseuse. Nope. Instead, you’re more often than not stuck at home where you’re surrounded by laundry and dishes and messes and kids and a to-do list that seems neverending, which all adds up to STRESS. We know something that might help just a little bit: one spot that you can truly relax in. And the best place to create that space is in your own bedroom. So here are tips for turning your master bedroom into a relaxing oasis. Have someone else watch the kids, close the door, and escape to your at-home getaway!
#1 – Clear the Clutter.
Keep the decor sparse and furnishings minimal (think of a nice hotel room) because clutter-free spaces help reduce your stress level. They’re actually much easier to keep clean, too. When you’re ready for your room to become your resort, simply make the bed and stash any laundry in a clothes basket in the closet.
#2 – Get Comfy.
Have you ever dreamed of a down feather bed and over stuffed pillows? The kind of bed that makes you feel like you’re sleeping on a cloud? Do whatever you can to make this your reality. We know there are always a million things that a family needs, but making yourself a priority sometimes is important for your well-being.
#3 – Envision Your Happy Place.
Do you have a favorite vacation spot or a place that’s your dream destination for the future? Decorate with that place as your theme. You may not be able to live on an island in the Caribbean, but surrounding yourself with artwork and images that remind you of your happy place will help you feel more like you’re there.
#4 – Glam it up!
Another way to make you feel like you’ve escaped your everyday life is to make the bedroom feel totally different than the rest of the house. You might prefer things more neutral in the living room, but try bold wallpaper patterns, gold accents, and mirrored dressers in your bedroom to instantly take you away from the mundane! A little bit of luxury after a tiring day could be just what you need to keep that stress level down!
#5 – Make it an Adult Music Only Zone.
After you’ve listened to the Frozen soundtrack for the 800th time you may actually forget that there was a time when other music existed – music YOU loved, that moved your soul and lifted your spirits. Keep that music on hand in your bedroom. Whether it’s some rock tunes that help get you pumped in the morning for another busy day or a dreamy soundscape CD for at night to wash away your worries, music is a great way to set the mood and whisk yourself away!
#6 – Leave the Gadgets Behind.
We all love our computers and phones, but if you’re constantly text messaging or checking your email, you are NOT relaxing. Also, the blue light makes it harder to fall asleep at night, so make the bedroom a gadget-free zone when you really need to calm down. This also creates a better environment for connecting with your partner at the end of the day.
#7 – Mood Lighting.
Cloud b makes a Tranquil Turtle that projects an undulating underwater effect that soothes little ones to sleep. But we’ve also heard time and again how much adults love it, too! It’s perfect for creating a relaxing atmosphere anywhere. Check out our Tranquil Starfish, which is our new “adult” version of the product.
