What’s worse than a kid with a smelly diaper? A hungry kid with a smelly diaper. Or, a hungry parent and a smelly diaper. Or better yet, a hungry parent and kid and also a smelly diaper. Don’t let this situation happen to you! Avoid any meltdowns with these easy, must-pack snacks for the diaper bag:
Pureed Fruit/Veggie Pouches: They are made for babies and toddlers, but we guarantee that you won’t be disappointed if a dire situation ensues and you’re forced to eat one. Plum Organics and Happy Family Brands both offer some tasty flavor options.
Apple Chips: If you have a dehydrator, it’s easy to sprinkle some cinnamon over sliced apples, stick in the dehydrator, and enjoy the benefits of your hard labor some hours later. If not, Bare Fruit offers some delicious apple chips that can be found online or at Costco. We suggest separating into smaller bags as the risk of eating them all in one sitting is high.
Bars: Protein, power, dessert, women’s-specific, kid’s…there’s a type of snack bar for every occasion in your life. For a healthy, long lasting energy bar, try to find one high in nuts and dried fruit and low in added sugars. Clif Bars and Larabars both fit this bill.
Nuts: Full of protein to satiate any hunger craving, nuts (think: cashews, almonds, pistachios) are the perfect snack for the diaper bag. Buy them in bulk online or pick up a bag at your local Trader Joe’s.
Beef Jerky: This is one diaper bag snack that is usually the first to go. We recommend trying to find a jerky brand you like that doesn’t contain any added sugar.
Oranges and Bananas: They’re healthy and they come in their own sturdy packaging. Enough said.
Dried Fruit: Dried fruit makes an excellent healthy snack when you and your little one are craving something sweet. You can buy unsulfured dried fruit in most stores these days or make your own.
Granola: Granola is easy to make at home and customizable to you and your child’s palate. It packs and stores well and you can easily mix into yogurt for some extra crunch.
Dark Chocolate: For you, not the kids. In moderation, dark chocolate has some excellent benefits – like giving you an energy boost! And, it’s simply a delicious treat that melts in your mouth for after your little one has a melt down.
