“This is my kindergarten picture. The photographer said to smile like Cookie Monster, so I did, literally! I still remember pulling it out of my backpack to show my mom.”
“My brother and his wife couldn’t get any good pics for Easter because my nephew wouldn’t come out of ninja mode.”
“My cousin’s glam shot in the early 80′s when he was 5 yrs. old. He picked the outfit.”
“This photo was from a period in my life my family inappropriately calls “The Chernobyl Years” (to describe the awkward phase of re-growth after all my hair fell out when I was about three.) It was taken at home, but I have absolutely no idea who the guy is. I asked my parents and other members of my family and no one can identify him. Clearly, he whispered something terrifying into my ear and it made my eyebrows fall off and turned my hand into a dead house spider.”
“My dad thought 2-year-old me was strong enough to hang from the curtain rod while he takes a picture.”
“My mom loved to get professional photos taken of my siblings and me when we were kids. I hated it. I learned fairly quickly that if I complained or was fussy they would just keep going and ask me to be still or quiet. However, if I behaved perfectly and just made awful facial expressions the photos would end. This little gem is a product of my silent temper tantrums.”
Born To Be Awkward cover model Aleister.
“My mom sent this to my dad who was in the military at the time and hadn’t met me yet. Thanks mom.”
“My friend’s baby had a little surprise for them during their photo shoot.”
At least they gave her 26 weeks.
“We were in vacation on Virginia visiting my aunt. My mom and dad thought it’d be a good idea to get a picture of my brother and I with the ocean in the background. And an even better idea letting my barely older than me brother hold me… the baby. Well, when my dad said “okay on the count of three” my brother Matt thought that meant to let go. My mom and aunt raced to grab me and caught me barely by the foot. My dad kept snapping the picture which resulted in this family classic.”
“This was the photo shoot for my newborn son. I was supposed to be looking lovingly at him and instead sneezed all over him. The photographer caught it at just the right moment.”
“I think I was about 18 months old when my mother took this picture. I had climbed into the toilet on my own. My parents were a little upset because I was wearing my new leather shoes and my mother thought if she flushed I would get scared but I just giggled and smiled!”
It’s a good thing he closed his eyes.
“My 11 month old was fascinated by the household toilet plunger. Obviously, it was off limits. But after a week of constantly prying it from his little grasp, I bought him a brand new one for his very own. And then… this is what he did with it.”
“This is our daughter, Keira, soon after she was born. I hadn’t quite learned to swaddle her correctly and my wife hadn’t quite learned to burp her correctly. Ah, new parents.”
“We were celebrating my daughter’s first birthday and this picture was snapped of my daughter, her father and her nana. She did NOT want to take any pictures and did NOT want to be held.”
The baby was wondering why the camera was upside down.
