Do you need a vacation? We bet there’s a good chance the answer is yes – but then you think of traveling with the little ones, and you realize a trip somewhere might be just as much work as your normal routine. What’s the easy answer? Take a staycation! You can sleep in your own bed each night(yay!), or in a hotel very close to home(kids love it!), and only do fun stuff with your family all day long. How do you take a successful staycation? You research every possible fun thing there is to do with kids in your area. No matter if you live in the country or the biggest city, you might be surprised how much there’s to do once you really start looking. We found 100 wonderful winter staycation ideas for the family that we think will make one of the greatest family trips you’ve ever had – minus the stress that comes with travel!
Here are some of the most unique and awesome ideas we found:
Visit Local Ice Caves.
We found ice caves in New Mexico, Washington, New York, Idaho, Michigan, Iowa, and Wisconsin. If you live in or near one of these states, this would be a thrilling and unique experience for your whole family!
Build a Family Snow Fort.
If you’ve got a big snowstorm headed your way, look up how to build an adult-sized snow fort or igloo. With mom and dad helping with the structural building part, when the snow comes your kids will have the coolest fort ever and a winter they will never forget!
Visit a Farm.
Kids LOVE animals. Looking at cows, chickens, pigs, and sheep with the smell of fresh straw in a barn will be a much more exciting day for your kids than you might think.
Go Roller/Ice Skating.
There are still some roller rinks out there, and your family will crack up years later remembering how silly mom looked when she fell on her bum! Ice skating is always a fun-filled day for the family, too, as you gracefully (maybe) glide over the ice and then (of course) also fall on your bum. Both of these activities will leave the family all tired out and sleeping wonderfully that night.
Visit a Trampoline Park.
Trampoline parks are becoming more and more common across the country. What could be more fun for your kids than jumping on trampolines all day?
